Podopaediatric – This is an area of Podiatry focussing on the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal related problems in children. It is important to note that all children under 16 years of age will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There are many reasons your child may be suffering with lower limb or foot pain. The Parent or Guardian will receive a questionnaire prior to the appointment where, in brief, you will have the opportunity to provide us with some information about the child’s condition.

This assessment is extremely thorough with explanation throughout.

We tailor the assessment to the individual but may include the following:

Foot and lower limb posture assessment

Joint assessment

Muscle strength testing and stability assessments

Gait assessment which may include use of treadmill and pressure plate systems

Footwear assessment and recommendations

Treatment plan discussion

What will be needed for this Child Musculoskeletal (MSK) Analysis?

It is important to have appropriate history revised as this will allow the Podiatrist to identify the problem and direct treatment more effectively. If they have any scan results, test results or referral notes from their GP or other health professional we suggest that these are also brought to the appointment.

A pair of shorts will be required and 1 to 2 pairs of shoes (occupation footwear/a pair of activity shoes). Bring a selection of the shoes that they wear for any of the sporting activities they participate in.

Pain inside the foot or lower limb? Joint, muscle, tendon or difficulty when walking or performing your favourite activities? This is the appointment for you and is the first step on your journey to becoming pain free. In this appointment you will get the chance to have a one-to-one with an experienced podiatrist. The podiatrist will plan the best course of action moving forward.

What can I expect from this Child Musculoskeletal (MSK) Analysis?

We will always take a A FULL AND THOROUGH HISTORY of the child’s presenting problem, activity level, developmental milestones as a baby, toddler and throughout growth. We will complete the assessment and discuss the treatment options with you. We sometimes require further investigations of the presenting issue and so other health professionals may also be involved in your child’s recovery.

Treatment can include: Orthoses/Insoles, Taping, Rehabilitation programmes (Exercises), Possible onward referral or a Multidisciplinary approach to treatment, Footwear and activity modification
