What can I expect from Shockwave Therapy?
As a new patient you will need to attend an Initial Appointment where your eligibility for the course of treatment will first be determined. If eligible and safe to commence treatment we will take you through the consent process and explain in detail the following: the intended benefits, low level risks of the treatment and what to do prior to and after your treatment.
Usually, you will require 3-4 treatments spaced at 1-2 week intervals alongside your rehabilitation programme provided by your health care professional.
You may experience some discomfort during your treatment, but a member of our team will be on hand to monitor your pain scores throughout and reduce intensity/ frequency if intolerable.
The activity intensity following treatment will be advised to you. We do ask that you have relative rest on the day of treatment. If this clashes with work, we tend to recommend coming for appointments later in the day.
Why should I have ESWT?
ESWT is offered to patients who have not responded well enough to other treatments which may include but are not limited to:

Stretching/ loading and activity modification
Taping
Orthoses
Other shoe inserts
Bracing/ Splinting
Rest and ice therapy
